Artist Statement:
In an immediate search for balance in life I find a greater necessity for beauty and nurturing of family; a place to hide in our own landscape of soil and sky, wood, weed, and water, in the breath of living earth, the budding of spring, ripening of fall, the starkness of winter, and the fullness of summer. In a world that offers no rest, to muse of communion with the layers of man and nature, in peace and quiet, in solitude and with family and transcendentalists, is comfort.
Biography
Andy grew up in Williamston, Michigan. His parents encouraged intimacy with all that the richly cultivated land of south central Michigan could offer. Here he began to see that nowhere does the land change as quickly as in farm country. “Thing come and go in a flurry of color and light and texture.” Andy graduated high school in 1993 and accepted a scholarship to study art at Grand Valley State University. There he completed a study abroad program in both France and England and received a BFA in 1997. Sine college he has worked as a lead carpenter and a project manager for a small family owned builder in Holland, Michigan. Some of his craft has been featured in Publications such as Better Homes and Gardens. His artwork has been represented by LaFontsee Galleries of Grand Rapids since 1999 and is a part of many public and private collections around Michigan. Currently Andy, his wife Traci, and sons Arlo and Eli live in Holland in a Michigan Historical Home but soon plan to find a place again outside of the mainstream.
